PACE units
The PACE (Professional and Community Engagement) initiative is a key component of the University's strategic vision. PACE provides practical experience for undergraduate students, engaging them in real world learning activities with organisations, on campus, in Sydney, around Australia and around the world.
Students enrolled in PACE units complete an individual or group activity with one of over 2,000 partner organisations in the business, government, non-government, or not-for-profit community sectors on diverse projects of mutual benefit. PACE units are academically rigorous and designed to:
- enhance students' educational experience and develop valuable career skills and professional networks
- foster students' capabilities to actively contribute to the well-being of people and the planet
- assist local, regional and international partner organisations to build their capacity
- transform learning, teaching and research at Macquarie to contribute to a socially inclusive and sustainable society
All PACE units include an experiential learning activity which constitutes at least of 20% of the total workload of the unit. These activities can include:
- internships
- practicums
- field trips with an external component
- service based learning
- community development projects
- quality assurance projects
- research projects
- community and business reference panels
