ENGL390: Writing Portfolio
This unit is the capstone unit in the Writing major. The unit is composed of three learning modules: Writing, Pathways to Publication/Production and Writing for Publication/Production. In the Writing module students build on the skills and experience gained in prior writing units. Students have the opportunity to focus on the particular genre of writing chosen for their major, either non-fiction, narrative, poetry, or script. A significant work or series of works is the outcome of this module. In the Pathways to Publication/Production module the focus is on graduate opportunities and developing capabilities for production or publication. This practical module prepares students for the final Writing for Publication/Production module. In this, students contribute to a peer assessed and produced online publication, extending the editorial and production skills achieved in prior writing units. Each module includes readings of theoretical and creative texts, and assessment. Student compose a reflective statement on their learning and produce a final portfolio that includes creative work from the modules. Qualified students may choose to continue with Honours study, which includes further creative work in the Department relevant to their genre.
