ACCG355: Information Systems for Management

This unit enables students to gain an understanding of the implications and impacts of the internet revolution, based on the basic principles of management information systems. The primary objectives of this unit are to understand: the concept of the digital economy; the impact business pressures play on the organisation and their responses and adaptations to these pressures; and the role technology plays both inside and outside the organisation in the context of globalisation. This unit takes a practical, managerial approach to how ICTs can enhance an organisation's competitive position. The unit develops critical, analytical and integrative thinking by encouraging students to engage in issues relating to emerging technologies. Students learn to effectively communicate the potential social and ethical issues relating to these technologies as well as the business benefits. Student should be able to show professional and personal judgement and initiative in solving real world business problems relating to new technologies. These capabilities provide a foundation for continuous learning and create responsible global citizens capable of making a difference in the world.
