ACCG250: Accounting Systems Design and Development

This unit aims to introduce students to the accounting issues associated with the business use of information systems. The unit exposes students to the core concepts of internal controls, business processes, ethics, systems development and systems documentation. Other topics covered can include databases, auditing the information system and the role of systems in business. The unit equips students with an awareness of accounting information systems and their impact on the accounting profession, including the impact of computer based systems on internal controls and audit, business process design and the accountant's role in preparing and interpreting financial statements. The unit also develops an awareness of the issues in adopting and implementing accounting information systems. This unit is a key part of the accounting degree. It seeks to develop graduate capabilities centred upon effective communication and higher order analysis and critical thinking using a range of case based materials. The unit assumes a strong understanding of the manual accounting process.
