Disability and Multimodal Communication - LING309

This unit will focus on the impact of lifelong disability on communication across the lifespan. Students will be introduced to the communication issues that impact on the lives of people with lifelong disability and those who support them, and the importance of multimodal communication systems in facilitating communication and community inclusion. The unit aims to consolidate students' understanding of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), including both high- and low- AAC technology options for people with lifelong disability and their communication partners. Students will examine models of disability, especially in relation to people with lifelong disability, and team management issues in working with people with lifelong disability.
