Forensic Accountants and the Courts - ACCG891
This unit examines the role of the forensic accountant in the courtroom or tribunal, as either an expert or lay witness. Traditional and modern procedures for adducing evidence in court are covered, and include examination-in-chief, cross-examination and re-examination. The special nature of quasi-judicial roles, such as Special Referees and Court-appointed experts, is examined. An alternate dispute resolution, the expert determination, is also considered. Students completing this unit are expected to be able to prepare, analyse and evaluate traditional and modern procedures for adducing evidence in court or other forum in various business contexts. This unit develops graduate capabilities centred upon critical thinking and problem solving capability and develops students' ability to make professional judgements.
