Indigenous Australian Health - ABST204
This unit of study examines Indigenous Australian health in rural, remote and urban contexts. The unit explores the current health status of Indigenous Australian peoples, including patterns of morbidity and mortality, as well as social and historical processes influencing these patterns of health. Students with compare various models of health care, and consider Indigenous views of health, illness and well-being. The unit will also allow students to investigate of health service provision for Indigenous people, including examining barriers to health service access, the critical role of Indigenous community controlled and appropriateness of mainstream health services. Models of primary health care, community development and health promotion will be studied as components of Indigenous health provision.
