Advanced Issues in Social Psychology - PSY460
Empirical investigations in social psychology may sometimes seem limited in their capacity to generalise beyond the laboratory to real-world contexts, yet advances in our understanding of important social phenomena have been made that could only be forged through the precision of rigorous empirical research. The strength of basic research in social psychology is not so much in its implications for applied contexts (eg, organisational, clinical, marketing) but in developing insights into fundamental social processes. In this unit we examine a sample of social psychological research that has provided insights into social motivation, emotion, and social cognition.
