Introduction to Mechanical Engineering - ENGG170
This unit provides an introduction to and awareness of various aspects of mechanical engineering including mechanics, machines, materials, manufacturing, thermodynamics and heat transfer. Upon completion students will be able to use the laws and theories of mechanics to explain and solve simple mechanics problems, performing the required calculations. Techniques will be introduced and computer aided tools used to sketch, draw, and represent designs and systems. The engineering method including techniques for understanding problems, modelling, and approaches to problem solving will be developed. Engineering practices, including record keeping, documenting and searching for information, are emphasised and practised in workshops and laboratory sessions.
