Applied Palaeontology and Biogenic Sediments - BIOL382
This unit aims to illustrate, with pertinent examples, the way that fossils (especially micro-fossils) can be utilised to investigate past environments, palaeoclimate, ecology, biostratigraphy, faunal turnover and extinction, and exploration for natural resources. This unit is designed as a largely practical unit where students are introduced to and gain experience with using fossil and recent materials to solve important and pertinent scientific problems. The unit is especially useful for students interested in biodiversity and conservation, ecology, palaeontology, environmental science, quaternary geology, archaeology, and exploration geosciences.
