Advanced Issues in Thinking and Reasoning - PSYC437

The focus of this unit will be on complex human cognition, reasoning, thinking and information processing. The unit will explore topics including dual process theories of human cognition, the adaptive heuristics versus biases debate, the role of fourth heuristic (emotion) in information retrieval and manipulation and other topics in the area of human judgement and decision making. One of the fundamental questions is the debate concerning descriptive versus normative models of human cognition. The unit will consist of student presentations, demonstrations and facilitated discussion of the topics.
