Perception II - PSY342
Recent research has seen a rapprochement between approaches to the study of mechanisms of human perception, including animal neurophysiology and human psychophysics. This unit deals with a number of advanced topics, concentrating on current research in vision including recent evidence for parallel processing in higher areas of the visual cortex of humans and monkeys, and work on mechanisms of attention, orientation perception, and motion. It also deals with brain imaging approaches to the study of awareness and consciousness; reading; reading disability; and other perceptual disorders; face perception; and stereopsis. Important components of the unit are an essay, practical class worksheets and a final essay exam.
