Information Management and Museums Practice - MSM202
This unit explores the philosophy of information organisation and the role of museums with emphasis on the preservation of natural and cultural heritage; the collection, preservation and provision of access to materials; mushrooming of stored knowledge related to digital storage of data: image capture, written materials, links to other sites; social and political background to information storage; copyright issues; and the role of curators in research, teaching, exhibitions and community outreach. Students gain practical experience with object condition reports, significance studies, curation and information management. On-campus museums and collections are integral to the delivery of this unit.
