Medical Translation and Interpreting - TRAN888
The aim of this unit is to provide translation and interpreting students with the opportunity to discuss and practice advanced translation and interpreting skills in the specialised area of health care. Students will analyse the complex linguistic, cultural and ethical challenges of translating medical documents and interpreting in medical settings. Students will explore the theoretical foundations of medical practice, medical terminology and discourse, and the roles of key participants. Applied aspects of this unit focus on development of preparation techniques and interpreting strategies for doctor-patient appointments, hospital practice, and mental health counselling sessions; and the translation of various medical documents, including information brochures, consent forms and medical papers.
