Supervised Practical Placement I - PSY956
This unit is the first practical placement unit for the Masters and Doctorate Professional Degree programs in Clinical Psychology and is conducted in an MQ Clinic. As such it provides the opportunity to put theory/techniques gained in coursework units into practice with people in genuine psychological distress. It provides students with experience in all aspects of clinical work within an outpatient setting, except crisis and legal applications. Students gain experience assessing clients both psycho-diagnostically and psychometrically, apply various therapeutic interventions individually, in couples, families or groups as well as develop the Professional skills to manage a case load of clients, including report writing and liaising with other Professionals, all under intensive supervision to ensure the safety of both the public and student. Finally, students develop their identity as Clinical Psychologists.
