BUSL333: International Human Resources Law

This unit provides a basic understanding of Australian human resources law. The unit includes an overview of the regulatory process of industrial relations, its historical development and the philosophy of the actors within the system in order to better understand the reform introduced in the final sittings of the Australian Federal Parliament in December 2005. The passing of the Workplace Relations Amendment (Work Choices) Bill 2005 (Cth) has drastically changed the approach to the control of human resources by shifting the bias from collective bargaining to individual bargaining between the parties concerned. This has been achieved by removing many of the protections legislated over the last century that had become available to employees, and by invoking the corporations power of the Australian Constitution to give more control to the Federal Parliament. The recent change of Federal Government (2007) continues to change the direction that encompasses human resources law, with 'Forward with Fairness' as the preferred option.
