ENVG324: Economy, Place and Culture
This unit explores the interplay and interconnections between economy, place and culture; and its impact on the social dynamics of inclusion/exclusion, development, consumption and everyday life. Frameworks for thinking about how cultural and economic transformations shape understandings and experiences of place are developed through a variety of topics and case studies such as: places of mobility and boundary crossing (tourist sites, state borders, work places); changing urban spaces (urban renewal, arts and heritage); and sites of development (mining towns, international aid projects).
