STEAM Integration in the Early Years - EDST312
This unit explores the integration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) in the early years of education (birth-eight). Students will gain a deep understanding of the underlying pedagogies when engaging with STEAM, will learn to expand curriculum opportunities in formal and informal contexts (e.g. Maker spaces; Museums) and also differentiate their teaching strategies depending on the age and other important characteristics of their children/students. Contemporary methods of assessment, evaluation and documentation appropriate for young children will also be explored. Students will have the opportunity to design and implement their own educational resource with a focus on STEAM. The implementation will take place during an open to the community ‘STEAM DAY’ at Macquarie University.
