Actuarial Business Management - ACST130

This unit will provide students with an understanding of the wider business context in which actuaries work. Case studies will be integrated into the teaching as appropriate. The competencies obtained by students should enable them to apply tools and techniques to assist strategic thinking and prepare them for a role in management. The unit will cover the key drivers of external and internal business environments, strategic tools and frameworks necessary to assess the competitiveness of a business, development of business strategy, definition of business culture and how this will impact on the implementation of a chosen strategy, the role of values and behaviours in the long term success of a business, managing change, leadership and the nature and dynamics of working in teams.
