Dots, Dance and Drama - ABST303
Bangarra Dance Theatre played a pivotal role in the opening ceremony for the 2000 Summer Olympics staged in Sydney. Interest in Indigenous cultural expression through dance, art, and theatre has burgeoned in recent years. In this unit students will investigate a range of Indigenous art forms to develop a deeper understanding of a range of traditional and contemporary art movements and the shifting meaning of such art for Indigenous people. We will explore Indigenous dance and theatre considering not only its value to entertain but also to raise consciousness about Indigenous history and share and educate about Indigenous culture. This unit will include a visit to one of our major galleries and students will be encouraged to attend an Indigenous dance or drama production (depending on availability).
