European Study Tour: Leading Sustainable Organisations - MGSM886
Organisational sustainability under the current short-term shareholder value business model is increasingly being questioned as calls for socially- and environmentally-responsible leadership become more insistent. In these turbulent times, many organisations are seeking ‘better’ leadership, and yet leadership has been termed the most studied and least understood area of the social sciences. Business leaders need to become aware of highly successful, alternative leadership models based on concepts such as long-term thinking, social justice, a range of stakeholders, and corporate sustainability. This 2-unit elective focuses on understanding such leadership approaches, as evident in leading-edge European organisations that have long practiced sustainable leadership. Incorporating a study tour of major organisations in Europe, the unit examines the theory and practice of leadership in an international, applied context in organisations that have weathered many ‘storms’.
