Global Health Law - HSYP812
As a result of increased globalisation, domestic and global health issues and challenges have become increasingly interconnected. This unit examines international law as a tool to prevent injury and disease, and respond to issues relevant to global health. Students will learn about the principle international legal instruments, regulatory strategies, and enforcement approaches that exist to improve global public health. Consideration will also be given to the important role other actors, such as intergovernmental organizations (eg, the World Health Organisation), business, and civil society, may play in promoting and protecting health. The unit will examine communicable diseases and non-communicable diseases, as well as bioterrorist risks, and relevant global health law responses.
