Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility - MGSM868

This unit is subject to a quota. Limited places are available. Please refer to the Faculty for further information

With the changing expectations of consumers, employees and regulators, being best in the world is no longer enough. Businesses are now also expected to be best for the world: to be socially and environmentally responsible, sustainable and ethical. For financial, moral and relational reasons, business leaders need to know how to create shared value and how to manage stakeholders, from their employees to the community they operate in. It is essential to look into the organisational value chain, competitive advantage and core business activities and to shift from a nice‐to‐have sideshow CSR to a strategic one by integrating their business strategy with social goals. Strategic CSR is about tying CSR to the company’s strategy, core activities and competitive advantage. It is also about working from a multi‐stakeholder perspective. In this unit we will look into what strategic CSR is and what it involves: ethical behaviour, giving and environmental sustainability. The unit will also introduce some cutting edge concepts and ideas, such as CSV, the blue economy and corporate peace.
