National Security: Policy and Strategy - PICX211
This unit examines national security policy and strategy as it is developed and pursued by governments and private sector organisations. It examines the policy development, monitoring and evaluation role of government departments and agencies, the concept of national interests and the process and logic of strategy formulation.
The unit then moves on to national security policymaking processes and the policy coordination role of certain agencies. It will also discuss private sector influence on national security policy and private sector approaches to securing information, infrastructure and assets from infiltration or attack. Finally, the unit will compare continuity of government and business continuity approaches to contingency planning.
This unit complements other core units at level 2, particularly PICT210, which covers the operational aspects of homeland security, and PICT213, which focuses on disaster resilience and crisis response.
