Australian Foreign Policy - POIR634

This unit examines Australian foreign policy, with particular emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region, in both its contemporary and historical aspects. An examination of the development of the study of international relations is the basis for an exploration of the traditions of foreign policy in Australia, examining key stages in its development from 1901 to the present day. Contemporary issues include approaches to security, economic globalisation, the United Nations and peacekeeping, the development of international regimes covering human rights, the environment and disarmament, as well as the nation's key relations in the Asia-Pacific region.
