Academic English 1 - WFEN001
This unit is built around contemporary issues in Australian society and incorporates active learning tasks and experiences designed to improve language at paragraph level. Paraphrasing, summarising, skimming and scanning, note taking and reporting skills are extensively practiced. A strong focus has also been placed on independent learning skills which enable students to take an active approach towards managing their own learning goals and implementing strategies to achieve them. The unit introduces students to the expectations of a Western university setting and aims to give them the means to effectively prepare for and participate in a tertiary study as well as the wider context of the Australian society.
