Overview and Aims of the Program Macquarie’s Master of Education program builds students’ capacities to make an effective contribution to the development and implementation of innovative, evidence based, solutions to challenges arising from changing educational environments. Based on a firm foundation of knowledge of educational research, of the nature of educational organisations, of the process of learning and teaching, and of educational technologies, students build an in-depth understanding of at least one specialist area; Advanced Practices in Learning and Teaching, ICT and Education, and Higher Education.

The program provides opportunities for students to develop their abilities to access the most up to date sources of research and scholarship in Education, to distil the essence of this sometimes highly technical literature, and to communicate the results effectively to both academic and non-academic audiences. Learning and teaching activities are structured such that students continually refine and enhance their developing knowledge and skills by applying them to authentic problems, tasks, and scenarios. A capstone unit provides students with the opportunity to integrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired, and a research unit enables them to apply this to address a substantive Educational issue of their choosing in a rigorous and scholarly way.

These critical thinking, knowledge management and communicative capacities can serve to not only enhance our Graduates contribution to the agility of the educational institutions in which they work, but also the learning of those they may teach, the capacities of their professional communities, and to lay the foundation for their own lifelong learning.

Interpersonal or social capabilities
(C) effective communication
(E) engaged and ethical local and global citizens
