Poetry Seminar: Reading and Writing Poetry - ENGL715

This unit focuses on both the reading and the practice of writing poetry, and is suitable for students with some experience in writing who are interested in developing their knowledge and practice of poetry, and how it can involve research activitiy. Students read a broad range of modern and contemporary poetry, and essays on poetics and creativity, and also do a range of poetry writing and research activities to develop their own voice. Poetic language and prosody are studied in both formal and free verse and students are encouraged to develop their writing in a range of forms suited to their interests. Assessment is based on students' creative work, reflection and research abilities, and their critical and analytical writing.
