Advanced Topics in Experimental Psychopathology - COGS730
This unit examines the way in which experimental hypnosis has been used by cognitive psychologists, cognitive and clinical neuropsychologists, and neuroscientists to recreate and investigate clinical conditions in the laboratory. This unit covers the nature of hypnosis (its history, definition, characteristics, measurement, explanation and neural basis); research in hypnosis (intrinsic and instrumental); views about hypnosis and hypnotisability and their relationship to psychopathology; and a selection of pathological conditions that have been/can be modelled by hypnosis.
