Principles of Minimally Invasive Surgery - MEDI827

This unit is offered on a pass/fail basis.

Minimally invasive surgery is over 25 year old and is now the adopted gold-standard technique for many common procedures across a range of surgical specialties. Development in technique was largely by trial and error in the early years but it is now clear that distinct surgical skill sets appropriate to minimally invasive surgery are essential for both safe and consistent contemporary practice and to foster an environment for the development of new techniques. By completing this unit students will learn about the beginnings of minimally invasive surgery and gain a perspective of its rapid development worldwide.
