Indigenous Law and Natural Resource Management - LAW866
This unit considers the international and national recognition of Indigenous peoples' environmental and natural resource rights. The focus is on the implementation of these rights through negotiated legal frameworks such as joint management (co-management, primarily for conservation and sustainable use of wildlife and fisheries), Indigenous land- use agreements, community-based conservation, access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing, and modern treaties recognising the integrated rights of Indigenous peoples. A range of different jurisdictions will be considered.
