Organic and Biological Chemistry B - CBMS804
Biological systems carry out a huge range of complex organic reactions to achieve growth, to reproduce and to compete. Specific topics covered in this unit include: metal-mediated reactions and their applications in pharmaceutical and biological sciences; aromaticity; heterocyclic chemistry; nucleotides, DNA and RNA; photochemistry, pericyclic reactions and quantum mechanics for organic chemistry. This unit requires good skills in organic chemistry; a background in other aspects of chemistry and/or biochemistry will be advantageous.
