Ancient Egyptian Ceramics - AHPG865
Egyptian ceramics can be considered the backbone of the archaeology of Ancient Egypt. Pottery provides a secure framework for dating of all archaeological contexts. Furthermore, the study of pottery can also shed light on cultural affiliations and economic aspects.
This unit will examine the chronological development of major assemblages from the Prehistoric until the Graeco-Roman Period on the basis of the different materials used, manufacture techniques, morphology of pottery types and important sites in Egypt.
One important component of this unit is the intensive study and documentation of original ceramic artefacts from the Museum of Ancient Cultures.
