Credit and Lending Decisions - AFCP856

This unit provides a framework for robust credit and lending decisions by banks. Credit scoring techniques are explained for evaluating consumer loans and loans to the SME (small medium enterprise) sector. We examine the range of methods used for financing and how they can be used most effectively (eg, trade, equipment, inventory and project finance; bill facilities, private placement; syndicated lending). The process of putting together a funding proposal for a corporate customer is analysed, including documentation and taking security. The unit introduces some of the challenges of handling problem loans, from restructuring to provisioning. Finally we highlight governance of credit processes in the context of a large financial institution.
