Justice and the Social Order - SOC311

In this unit we explore criminology through the concepts of justice and social order. You will consider how theories of justice and social order emerge from social and cultural contexts, historical events, theories and ideologies; and how they inform policies of intervention, prevention and punishment in different ways at different times. The evolution of our ‘so called’ freedoms will be explored throughout the unit to encourage critical reflection on fairness, freedom, discipline, order and control in Australian and international contexts. By linking the themes of justice and social order to concepts of citizenship and the state we ask if the ideals match the realities of freedom, liberty and justice.
