Information Management and Museums Practice - MSM202

This unit explores the philosophy of information organisation and the role of museums with emphasis on the preservation of natural and cultural heritage; the collection, preservation and provision of access to materials; mushrooming of stored knowledge related to digital storage of data: image capture, written materials, links to other sites; social and political background to information storage; copyright issues; and the role of curators in research, teaching, exhibitions and community outreach. Students gain practical experience with object condition reports, significance studies, curation and information management. On campus museums and collections are integral to the delivery of this unit.
