Introduction to Digital Media Production - MAS110

The aim of this unit is to introduce students to digital media production in the context of media convergence and participatory culture. The unit is informed by recent transformations in media technologies, across production, distribution and consumption, in the online environment. The teaching and learning aims are geared towards ‘hands-on’ and experiential learning. The unit serves as a foundation unit for ongoing production units offered by MMCCS at 200 level. The focus of assignment work is on small-scale, digital media productions involving the creation, manipulation and optimisation of text, photo-media, moving image, music, interactive media and gaming-media. Basic digital media skills are taught in a digital media lab environment. Students work both individually and within small groups on creative media assignment work. The unit is interdisciplinary in scope with an emphasis on innovative digital media forms and practices today.
