Introduction to Marine Science - MAR201

Introduction to Marine Science is a broad unit where the interactions between the biological geological, physical and chemical sciences are presented. This unit is designed to provide an understanding of the marine setting, the organisms that inhabit within and on the edges of the marine environment, the way in which the physical and chemical environment defines their distributions and the role of management. Assessment tasks will challenge you to: locate primary reference material, assess marine literature, highlight your awareness to the use of media both through critical and creative exercises, handle and identify marine organisms, collect data, graphically display and statistically analyse the data and write a scientific report. This unit forms a compulsory part of the programme for the Bachelor of Marine Science but welcomes students with a good science background. Practicals commence the first week of term to ensure you are ready for the compulsory field trip (28 March - 1 April 2012).
