Law, Institutions and People - A Global Perspective - LEX101

In this unit we pull apart global legal systems, and question whether law can effectively regulate diverse social, political and technological issues. We discuss rights, obligations and dilemmas of being a citizen in western, non-western, and non-state legal systems. We draw on Common, public, international and indigenous law, and look at socio-legal construction of political authority and judicial activism. Topics include: individual versus public good, national security, human rights, religion, crime, decency, the media, technology, and social opportunity. In multidisciplinary teams, you will be mentored to develop a major socio-legal reform submission addressing challenges for democracy, justice, and community development.
