Applications Modelling and Development - ISYS254

This unit is an intermediate unit of study for programming concepts and approaches suitable for enterprise application development. Students learn how to design and implement business applications communicating with a database. Study focuses on the use of an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that enables generating, writing, debugging and executing of programs and that provides a visual and declarative development platform. The unit emphasises creation of web applications with the assistance of component technology standards, such as J2EE and .NET. Currently, the technology for this unit is J2EE and the IDE is JDeveloper. Whenever possible the emphasis is on generating code using J2EE and IDE. Programming in Java is required on the level of scripting (code snippets rather than full programs of Java classes). There is also a need to understand and program in JSP and XML tags. JDeveloper handles the infrastructure code that connects all parts of the application as well as any connections to a relational database (Oracle).
