Environmental Management - ENVE362

This unit provides a conceptual and practical understanding of the interdisciplinary links between environmental research, management approaches and policy frameworks that are fundamental to integrated and adaptive environmental management. We explore significant issues and challenges associated with managing our dynamic environment, including catchment assessment and prioritisation, river and wetland rehabilitation, land degradation and recovery, coastal erosion, atmospheric pollution, climate change and variability, and ecosystem conservation planning. To emphasise practical applications and outcomes, the unit includes a field visit to sites of environmental importance in the Sydney region. A range of professional literacy skills are integrated in the unit, which, together with an understanding of key environmental issues, are designed to enhance employability in the field of environmental management and in related fields. Specialist lectures from industry professionals, such as environmental consultants and government scientists, also provide a forum for discussion of key issues and highlight the relevance of strong links between science, management and policy.
