Creative Writing 2: Concept and Practice - ENGL304
This unit continues and extends the practical work and outcomes undertaken and achieved in the prerequisite unit ENGL201 Creating Writing 1: An introduction. The unit encourages responses to different approaches to creative writing, such as post-modernist, post-structuralist, post-colonial and feminist writings as well as considering differences in written discourse, including factual writing. The aim is to encourage students to attempt new ways of writing and to develop their work into finished creative texts, with the capacity to consciously position these texts within the wider discourse. Students continue to develop their learning of practical writing skills, their use of language, and to deepen their reflection and knowledge about their writing, which are demonstrated in an assessable on-course writing portfolio and other assessment tasks. Unit readings provide examples of creative writing and theoretical material and aim to inform students of issues of direct concern within contemporary writing. These readings encourage students to expand into new areas of writing and to stimulate intellectual and creative enquiry. All students access the unit website for online learning activities and to access the iLectures.
