Advanced Human Physiology - BIOL376
This unit follows on from 200 level human physiology units, BIOL257 and BIOL247, and will deal with the advanced functioning of the human body concentrating on the central nervous system control (CNS) of various body systems. We will start with a revision of the main neurotransmitter pathways and their functions within the CNS prior to studying the integrative functions dealing with body muscle tone and movements, memory, personality, language and perception. This is followed by the CNS function in the perception of and the bodies response to various stressors. The brain stem control of respiratory and cardiovascular function is covered in the second half of this unit.
