Behavioural Ecology - BBE307
This residential field based unit is taught at the Fowlers Gap Arid Zone Research Station in far west New South Wales on a compulsory field course (dates 11-19 April 2011). This higher level unit introduces students to the techniques used in the study of animal behaviour and ecology, both in research and also by Government departments and industry. The unit centres around the practical component, focusing on the abundant and highly characteristic arid zone fauna found throughout much of the Australian interior (such as red kangaroos and zebra finches). Lectures held on campus before the field course cover the theoretical basis for the techniques used, experimental design, biodiversity of the arid zone fauna and adaptations to this extreme environment.
