Ancient Greek A - AHIS208
The main aim of this unit is to teach students to read documents in Ancient Greek. This is an introductory unit and no previous knowledge of Ancient Greek is expected, nor is familiarity with the rudiments of English grammar essential (although this is helpful). By the end of the unit students should have: acquired a sound knowledge of the vocabulary of the texts studied; sufficient mastery of their grammar and vocabulary to understand the texts at the level of word and phrase; and be able to read simple passages in Greek. A second semester of study is required before students are able to read original Greek documents with any degree of fluency.
