Auslan Interpreting Techniques - TRAN863

This unit is the first foundation unit for the Auslan-English interpreting program. It will familiarise students with the broad context of interpreting theory. Techniques of interpreting from English into Auslan, and from Auslan into English, focus on monologic discourse. The online component explores theoretical aspects of interpreting, referring to both spoken and signed language interpreting literature and strategies, via readings, case studies and reflection on students' own practice. On campus sessions apply theory to professional practice, helping students recognise factors that influence the effective use of different interpreting techniques in different contexts, as well as the decision making involved. Participants will be expected to perform individual, peer and group evaluations.
