Working with Children - PSYS823

The focus of this unit is on the emotional, social, cognitive and behavioural development of children as well as the range of problems children present. Theory and skills training is provided on assessing and working with children and their families. The unit provides students with different therapeutic approaches to child and family problems, including strengths based practice and creative therapeutic approaches for working with children. Skills for the assessment and intervention with a range of childhood problems will be developed, together with parent behavioural management interventions and an introduction to the skills required to working with children with disabilities and also adolescents
