Networking: Extracting and Analysing Digital Evidence from Network and Telecommunications Systems - PICT823

Network forensics is the examination of network devices, logs and other artefacts to investigate incidents involving malicious activity and/or misconduct; the scope of investigations includes all types of networks including in particular the Internet. The purpose of network forensics is the ability to collect, analyse and present information in a manner that is relevant, admissible and probative for judicial and/or administrative decision makers. This unit covers the fundamentals of networks in a forensics context, sources of information including device and system logs, and the analysis of the interplay of the devices of interest. It will also cover how to present relevant network information to courts and other decision makers.
