Musicianship - MUS852
This unit develops aural awareness, theoretical understanding and practical skills in improvisation. It actively encourages students to think critically and deeply about the process of listening, understanding and creating music in general and improvised music in particular. This will include reading and discussing seminal journal articles dealing with diverse ideas of music and musical thought. The aim of the module is to cultivate an advanced analytical and conceptual foundation for developing diverse and different ways of thinking about improvisation and its practice. Building on this advanced critical awareness the course will use both practical and theoretical approaches to demonstrate how this can enhance and improve performance skills in improvisation.
