Advanced Operating Systems - ITEC856

In order to support new devices and constructs, operating systems require continual revision and expansion of their core facilities, from process management through to networking. The goal of this unit is to introduce students to fundamental systems programming, patterns and properties, including modularity, textuality, transparency and configurability. The practical component of the unit will include procedural programming using C, and students will be required to develop device drivers or other changes for the Unix operating system to explore the real-time hardware-software interface.
